About This Station

North Jersey Weather was created just for the sheer enjoyment of watching the weather. We're now celebrating our fifth year in operation! Being an avid weather watcher for over 36 years, and later a storm spotter for the National Weather Service, I always enjoyed monitoring all aspects of the weather. From snowstorms to thunderstorms, cold spells to heat waves, each season brings unusual & interesting weather conditions to this part of the nation. I guess my fascination with the weather is due to the fact that it remains an uncontrollable force, and can at times, greatly affect how we live. Have you ever try to drive home during a snowstorm here in northern New Jersey? It's no fun to say the least. Add to that flashfloods, high winds or even fog, and a simple routine daily commute can quickly become a nightmare. I've been keeping daily weather records for nearly 15 years now, but have only since shared my data with others via the internet. All weather data presented here is shared with the CWOP, (Citizens Weather Observer's Program, APRS-WX NET) as well as the Weather Underground. The site is continually evolving, so please bear with me at times. Thanks always for your continued support, and I hope you'll enjoy the weather.

The Station consists of a Davis Vantage Pro, cabled version, and is in operation at Wood Ridge, which is in southern Bergen County New Jersey. This station is privately owned, operated and this project is funded entirely by myself. The anemometer is mounted up at 36 feet. For the most part it is in the clear, however a hill does obstruct the west-northwest periphery. Many of my highest gusts have been recorded from the southeast, as this is the best direction for me. I've recorded wind gusts as high as 52 mph on several occasions. The Davis Vantage Pro is interfaced to a Dell PC, and all data is processed using Weather Display software. The data is posted to the internet at half an hour increments, however, I have recently begun to update the "Live Weather" page in five minute intervals.

About This City

Do not confuse Wood Ridge with Woodbridge, this is a common mistake! Wood Ridge New Jersey is sandwiched between Hasbrouck Heights to the north, Carlstadt to the south, Moonachie to the east and Wallington to the west. Wood Ridge has a population of roughly 8,200 and is just one mile across. It lies in the southwestern part of Bergen County, which is located in the northeastern corner of the state. Giant's Stadium, the Meadowlands are also major landmarks for this area, as they are only 2-3 miles south of Wood Ridge.
