November 18 2008. Just a quick shot which will remind us that it's the middle of the fall season. Most of the leaves are down and the sun angle is extremely low. The days are short and the nights are getting colder. Thanksgiving 2008 is just a week away. Time flies!

November 18 2008. My apologies for not posting photos in October. October was a rather warm month. That warmth lingered into the beginning of November. However, the warm sunny days have recently been replaced by a very cold air-mass. There was reports of a few snow showers this morning. We'll be hard pressed if we reach 40F the next several days. Our overnight lows will be in the 20s. This was taken around 12:30pm looking to the west. Overall, a nice day, if you could withstand the wind and cold!

September 28 2008. September was a strange month here in New Jersey. After Tropical Storm Hanna drenched the area with upwards of 5" of rainfall, we immediately went into a prolonged spell of dry and warm weather. A sub-tropical low moved into the Carolinas towards the end of the month, and this system also brought additional heavy rainfall into the area. We received another 2.5" of rain, bringing the monthly total to 7.63". This photo was taken late in the evening on the 28th, when a line of showers and storms moved through the region.

August 12 2008. A day after strong thunderstorms occurred across portions of northern NJ, we again experienced a thundershower late in the afternoon of the 12th. This was taken around 6:35pm looking towards the east. This is the first photo of a rainbow that I've ever taken. I took many shots of it, but this one provided the best over all contrast.

August 11, 2008. August is continuing right where July left off. Humid, warm days with plenty of severe weather action. Long Island has probably seen most of the severe weather. We hre in NJ have seen some too. Harrington Park had a microburst and there were many other reports of hail and high winds. This  was shot looking towards the south around 10:30 am Monday the 11th, as a strong thunderstorm moved into the area. It dropped a quick half an inch of rain with a half an hours time.

July 23, 2008. July had been a very warm and dry month up until yesterday. Once again, as in June, we experienced another prolonged heat wave, with many days reaching the middle to upper 90s. The highest temperature of 99F was reached on the 20th. This picture was taken last night, around 10:10pm. Very strong to severe thunderstorms passed through the area. In fact, the lightning was nearly continuous. This is the first time my SkyScan lightning detector ever indicated a "Severe" Thunderstorm and sounded its alarm! There was some small hail at the height of the storm and it did deliver a quick quarter inch of rain, peak gust was 30mph. Total rainfall was 1.55" over a two day period.

July 2008. Thought I would add a flower picture in here, just to mix things up a little. July is starting out quite warm and muggy. We're also going through a bit of a dry spell, and that's something we haven't seen in awhile. So far each month has finished up near or slightly above normal in the precipitation department. These flowers were just about past their peak when I snapped this photo.

June 2008. June has been quite an active month! There were many thunderstorms so far this month. This shot was taken looking southeastward. A Severe Thunderstorm Warning and a Flash Flood Warning were in effect for Hudson, Essex and Union counties, as well as Queens and Brooklyn in New York. There were reports of some weak rotation with this particular cell, and spotters reported upwards of 1.75" hail in some locations of the above mentioned counties. This thunderstorm gradually weakened as it pushed eastward.

June 2008. This was shot around 12:30pm on the afternoon of the 19th. I was looking north when I noticed some vertical development trying to take place. There were a few afternoon showers and thunderstorms that day.

May 2008. This photo was shot around 3pm yesterday afternoon. It was a very warm, muggy day, dew-points were near 70F and temperatures ranged in the lower to middle 80's. This was taken looking north when a band of thunderstorms was passing well off to my north. Another round of thunderstorms passed through my area around 5:15pm, bringing a quick quarter inch of rain and some fairly strong wind gusts. Peak gust at my station was just 30mph, but there were several reports of gusts near 50 mph. This brought down some tree limbs through out the area.

April 2008. Not a heck of a lot to report this month. Temperatures averaged a bit above normal and we experienced a brief two week mini-drought. Temperatures have gone from 80 degree days to below normal. This morning's low was 35F! Frost warnings were issued for much of northern New Jersey as well as New York State. Let's see what May brings our way.

March 22, 2008. March 08'- no snow this month, but we did experience plenty of rain & wind! This was taken during a tranquil time on top of Garrett's mountain in Passaic County.

February 22, 2008. This was our biggest snow fall for the 07-08' winter season. At this point in time I can't see us receiving anymore snow, let alone a snowfall larger than this one. Most reporting stations received between 6-7" of snow.

February 13, 2008. Here's a few more photos from the 2/12-2/13 Pre-Valentine's day mess! This was the first accumulating snow since December! We received 2.1" on the 12th, but it quickly turned to a sleet, freezing rain mix before changing over to all rain early on the 13th. We received a total of 2.77" of precipitation on these two days. This caused very bad flooding throughout Bergen County.

February 13, 2008. This was taken while driving along Rt. 80 here in northern NJ. Not the best picture I've ever taken. Interesting effect with the passing car tail lights. The sunset was particularly nice that evening, as a clear slot was moving in from the west.

Update: Well here we are on the 2nd day in February and its snowing this morning. After a daytime high of 50F yesterday, we're at 34 and snowing. This is the way its been the past few winters. plenty of see-saw action temperature wise. It seems we go from one extreme to the next. The next few days should feature unsettled conditions, although it will become mild. A strong cold front is expected to end the above normal stretch of temperatures come Wednesday. The photo on the right is of some large wet snowflakes. In some areas the ground did get covered. No accumulation was noted at my location.

February 2008. My apologies for not posting photos for January 08'. I suppose due to a lack-luster month weather-wise, that may have contributed to my not posting. January 2008 was very boring. It was also rather mild, along with some crazy temperature swings. We reached a high of 65 degrees on the 9th. In fact, there were three days in a row in which the temperature hit 60F or higher. The low temperature for the month was twelve on the morning of the third. The photo below was taken this morning, the February 1st. It clearly shows a rainy, nasty morning. Temperatures are in the middle 30s. Outlying areas are reporting an icy mix. Nearer to the coast, a cold rain is falling and the rain may become heavy at times as the day progresses. I'll try to post more photos during the month. Hopefully mother nature will bring us some interesting events.
